India BIS Update: Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients (Quality Control) Order, 2026 – Implemention Deadlines coming in 2027
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying) has notified the Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients (Quality Control) Order, 2026, vide S.O. 5576(E), dated 7 October 2026.
Products Covered and Applicable Indian Standards
The Order mandates compliance with the applicable Indian Standards and the use of the BIS Standard Mark under Scheme-I (ISI Mark Certification) for the following products:
- Mineral Mixtures for Supplementing Cattle Feeds – IS 1664
- Dicalcium Phosphate, Animal Feed Grade – IS 5470
- Common Salt and Cattle Licks for Animal Consumption – IS 920
Implementation Timeline
The implementation deadlines vary according to the size of the enterprise:
- Large and Medium Enterprises: 1 April 2027
- Small Enterprises: 1 July 2027
- Micro Enterprises: 1 October 2027
What Should Manufacturers Do?
Manufacturers of the covered products should review the applicable Indian Standards, assess their BIS certification requirements, and plan ahead to ensure compliance within the respective implementation timelines.
