Furniture Compliance Alert: Key BIS Deadlines You Cannot Miss
The Furniture (Quality Control) Order, 2025 becomes enforceable after 13 February 2026. From 14 February 2026, non-compliant furniture cannot be manufactured, imported, or sold in India.
Covered Furniture:
- Work Chairs – IS 17631:2022
- General purpose chairs and stools – IS 17632:2022
- Tables & Desks – IS 17633:2022
- Storage Units – IS 17634:2022
- Beds – IS 17635:2022
- Bunk Beds – IS 17636:2022
Deadline for Micro & Small Enterprises (MSEs):
Extended Compliance Deadline: 13 August 2026 (18 months from the date of notification)
All applicable products must comply with the above Indian Standards and hold a valid license issued by Bureau of Indian Standards.
