New BIS Update: Smartphone Screen Protectors to Come Under Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)
Smartphone screen protectors are the latest product category to enter India’s mandatory BIS compliance framework.
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has notified S.O. 5190(E), dated 21 September 2026, amending the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021.
Applicable Standard: IS 19348:2025 – Glass Screen Protector — Specification
Compliance date: 1 April 2027
What should manufacturers & importers know?
From 1 April 2027, covered smartphone screen protectors will need to comply with the applicable BIS CRS requirements before being placed on the Indian market.
Businesses should therefore start preparing in advance to ensure a smooth and timely transition to the applicable compliance requirements.
