Regulatory Update | Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers
The Government of India has issued major notifications through S.O. 5129(E) to S.O. 5142(E), by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals).
These orders take immediate effect and have been issued in public interest after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The notification rescinds multiple Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued earlier under the BIS Act, 2016, covering the following products:
- Terephthalic Acid
- Ethylene Glycol
- 100% Polyester Spun Yarn (Grey & White)
- Polyester Industrial Yarn (IDY)
- Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF)
- Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY)
- Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn (POY)
- Polyethylene Material for Moulding and Extrusion
- Polypropylene (PP) Material for Moulding and Extrusion
- Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Homopolymers
- Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) Copolymers
- Polyurethanes
- Polycarbonate
This rescission withdraws the earlier mandatory BIS certification requirements for these products, aligning with the government’s ongoing initiatives for regulatory rationalization and ease of doing business in the chemical and polymer sectors.
