India BIS News: Enforcement Action on Non-Compliant Mobile Chargers

A recent regulatory action in Hyderabad has drawn attention to the growing importance of product certification. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a raid at a mobile accessories outlet in Hyderabad, where fake CRS-marked mobile chargers were being sold without valid BIS certification. These products fall under the mandatory Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India.

This is a clear violation of Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016, which strictly prohibits the manufacture, sale, or distribution of products under QCOs without valid BIS certification. Legal action has been initiated against the violators.

Requirement:

Mobile chargers must comply with CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) under Quality Control Order (QCO) issued by the Government of India — BIS registration is mandatory before import, sale, or distribution in India.

  • Product Name: Power Adaptors for IT Equipment
  • IS Standard: IS 13252 (Part 1):2010
  • Scheme: Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) – Scheme II

We appreciate BIS for its proactive enforcement actions in safeguarding consumer interests and strengthening compliance across industries.

Key Message for Dealers & Retailers:

Only purchase from BIS-certified suppliers. Failure to comply can result in legal penalties and market disruption.
