Latest Update from BIS: Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025
The Quality Control Order (QCO) under S.O. 3927(E) by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has now been implemented titled:
Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025
Key Highlights:
- Order is now in force for general enterprises.
- Domestic as well as foreign manufacturers will now need to obtain mandatory BIS certification to carry out business in India.
- 14 types of crossed recessed screws listed and covered in the order.
- Enforcement dates for the enterprises.

The Order includes specific exemptions, such as:
- Goods manufactured for export.
- Goods imported as part of a finished product or sub-assembly.
- Imports for R&D purposes (up to 200 kg per year)
- Enterprises with investment ≤ ₹25 lakh and turnover ≤ ₹2 crore (as certified by a Chartered Accountant) are exempted.
The notification signifies continued efforts by BIS and DPIIT to strengthen product quality and safety in India’s fastener and hardware sector.
