India BIS Update: Government of India Officially Withdraws Three Chemical Quality Control Orders (QCOs)

As of 24th October, the Government of India has officially withdrawn three Quality Control Orders (QCOs) under Section 16 of the BIS Act, 2016, impacting key industrial chemicals:

  • Acrylonitrile
  • Maleic Anhydride
  • Styrene (Vinyl Benzene)

What’s Changed?

The notified orders issued in April 2022 have been rescinded, meaning no BIS certification is now required for these three chemicals.

This move, made in public interest after consultation with BIS, aims to simplify regulatory compliance and streamline industrial operations. Manufacturers, importers, and supply chain partners should update their compliance frameworks accordingly.
