India BIS Update: Draft Quality Control Order, Primary Lead
The Ministry of Mines, Govt of India had notified draft Quality Control Order (QCO) vide dated 12.09.2024 for Primary Lead as listed below for consultation and offering comments on SPS & TBT Platform of World Trade Organization.

Post adoption, the Ministry will publish the above QCOs in the Gazette of India’s website making it mandatory to follow the QCO for importing Lead into India.
Once it is implemented, both local and foreign manufacturers must adhere to the Indian Standard (IS 27:2023) and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), following Scheme-I outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The utilization of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, along with the corresponding Rules and Regulations. The Bureau of Indian Standards serves as the certifying and enforcing authority.
- The objective of the QCO is prevention of deceptive practices and consumer protection; Quality requirements.
- Proposed date of adoption: Yet to be decided
- Proposed date of entry into force: Six months from date of adoption
- Final date for comments: 60 days from notification i.e., 12.11.2024
