Compliance Deadline Alert – 19 March 2026: Are Your Electrical Appliances BIS Certified?
The enforcement deadline for Electrical Appliances, 19th March 2026, is fast approaching. If you manufacture or import household & commercial electrical appliances in India – you need BIS certification before this date.
No BIS licence = No legal sales in India. It’s that simple.
Under the Safety of Household, Commercial & Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025, BIS certification under IS 393 (Part 1): 2024 is becoming mandatory for 90+ product categories including:
- Vacuum cleaners
- Cooking ranges, ovens & hobs
- Dishwashers
- Hair clippers & shavers
- Air purifiers
- Electric toothbrushes
- And many more…
Deadlines:
- 19 March 2026 – Date of implementation in general (other than micro and small enterprises)
- 19 June 2026 – Small enterprises
- 19 September 2026 – Micro enterprises
BIS licensing is NOT a one-week process. It involves:
