UK REACH: Updates on the extension of the transitional registration deadlines

Attention all companies affected by UK REACH registration!

Subject to the consent of Scottish and Welsh Ministers, the UK Government announced today its intention to extend the transitional registration submission deadlines under UK REACH. The current deadlines – October 2026, 2028, and 2030-are determined by the annual tonnage band and hazard profile of chemical substances manufactured or imported into the Great Britain market in quantities of at least 1 tonne per year, unless exempt from registration.

Following extensive consultation with industry, non-governmental organisations, and trade associations, and subject to the consent of Scottish and Welsh Ministers, the UK Government will bring forward legislation to extend the deadlines to:

• 27 October 2029
• 27 October 2030
• 27 October 2031

After carefully reviewing the responses and evidence, the government concluded that these revised deadlines provide sufficient time for businesses to prepare and submit data, while ensuring that safety information becomes available in a timely and orderly way. Compliance checks will also be aligned with the new deadlines to maintain fairness and effective oversight.

The revised legislation to implement these changes is planned for 2026,  following the usual parliamentary process, ensuring the new deadlines take effect ahead of the first submission in October 2029.
