BIS Enforcement Alert: Key Compliance Reminder for Manufacturers & Importers

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office conducted an enforcement raid on 28 November 2025 at Mumbai, acting on information regarding the alleged misuse of the Standard Mark (ISI Mark).

The raid revealed that the enterprise was selling, storing and exhibiting Power Adapters for IT Equipment without the required BIS certification under IS 13252 (Part 1):2010, constituting a violation of Section 17(1) & 17(3) of the BIS Act 2016.
64 non-certified power adaptors were seized during the operation.

Why this matters for industry players

This action reiterates BIS’s proactive enforcement stance and the critical importance of compliance for:

  • Manufacturers
  • Importers
  • Distributors
  • E-commerce sellers

Under the BIS Act 2016, no product covered under mandatory certification can be sold, stored, hired, leased, or exhibited without a valid BIS licence and Standard Mark. Non-compliance may lead to seizure of goods, penalties, and legal action.
