About REACH

REACH is a wide ranging and far reaching chemicals regulation that was introduced into the EU in 2006. The aim of this regulation is to protect human health and the environment from the use of chemicals. It does this by shifting the burden of proof and makes industry responsible for generating hazard and risk data of chemical substances, while ensuring that this data is shared in order to limit the need for animal testing.

About Authorisation List
Where substances of very high concern (SVHC) are identified as part of this regulation, certain mechanism of action may be taken by the authorities to limit the potential risks to human health and the environment from their use. One of these mechanisms is Authorisation; where a company must apply for a special permit (authorisation) for each individual use for each legal entity. Where no Authorisation is sought or granted, the use of the substance by that company must stop on the substances Sunset Date.

Triton X -100 has been identified as one such (SVHC) chemical substance, it having properties which are harmful to the environment. For this substance, the Sunset date is the 4th of January 2021
